Why does the cost to hire vary so much by country?

Two companies paying the same gross salary in different Latin America and Caribbean countries can end up with a very different total monthly cost, because the employer contribution rate, the number of statutory bonus months and the required notice and severance are all set by local law, not by the employer. Mexico's IMSS social security rate is banded by salary and by the employer's occupational risk premium; other countries apply a flat statutory bonus, commonly called an aguinaldo or 13th salary; and severance formulas range from a fraction of a month's pay per year of service to none at all for a properly documented resignation. None of that shows up in a gross salary number alone.

The table below pulls every one of those figures from XCAILE's sourced country data, one row per country, sortable by any column. Where a figure has not yet been reopened and reverified within the last 120 days, or depends on a factor specific to your company, it shows "Being verified" instead of a guess.

What should a buyer compare beyond the headline percentage?

The employer contribution percentage is only the recurring monthly add-on. Statutory bonuses change the effective annual cost, since a country with a strong 13th-salary requirement effectively adds another month or more of pay across the year. Notice and severance change the cost of ending an employment relationship, which matters most if the role or the market is still uncertain. Currency and time zone do not change cost directly, but they change how predictable that cost is month to month, and how much of the working day overlaps with your own team.

Does hiring through an employer of record change these numbers?

No. An employer of record does not change the statutory contribution rate, the bonus requirement or the notice and severance rules; those are set by local law regardless of who employs the person on paper. What an employer of record changes is who is responsible for calculating, remitting and staying current on those obligations, and how fast a company can start paying someone compliantly in a country where it has no legal entity.

Questions buyers ask

Are these the final numbers we will be charged?

No. Every figure here is the verified statutory rate or item, with its source and the date it was checked. Your written quote confirms the exact monthly cost for the salary and country you choose, including anything still marked "Being verified."

Why do some countries show "Being verified" instead of a number?

XCAILE publishes only verified figures with a named source. Where a rate depends on a company-specific factor, such as an occupational risk premium, or a source has not yet been reopened and checked, we show that instead of guessing.

How often is this table updated?

Every fact carries a checked date, and any fact older than 120 days is automatically shown as "Being verified" until it is reverified, so the table never shows a stale number as current.

Does employer contribution include everything an employer pays?

It totals the verified single-rate statutory contribution items for that country, such as social security. Statutory bonuses, notice and severance are separate line items in the table because they are not part of the recurring monthly contribution rate.

Can we get this as a PDF?
